Lemongrass Seedlings

Lemongrass is a vigorous, aromatic tropical grass prized for its fresh citrus flavour, culinary versatility and hardy growth habit. It forms tall grassy clumps, thrives in warm conditions and is excellent for garden beds, herb gardens, edible landscapes and large pots.

Fast-growing and naturally resilient, lemongrass is highly tolerant of many common garden pests and becomes low-maintenance once established. In suitable warm climates, it can continue producing for multiple seasons with regular cutting.

Each QPS Lemongrass seedling is supplied as a live nursery-grown transplant-ready plant. This means the slower germination and early development phase has already been handled for you, giving growers a stronger starting point and a faster path to usable harvests than starting from seed.

📦 What You’ll Receive
A healthy live Lemongrass seedling at the transplant stage, approximately 15–25 cm tall including the root system. QPS has already raised the plant through germination and early nursery growth, so your job is to transplant it into a warm, sunny position and help it establish into a productive clump.

Harvesting & Ongoing Production
Unlike many vegetables, lemongrass is harvested continuously rather than all at once.

For stems: Harvest mature outer stems at the base once plants are well established.

For leaves: Trim fresh leaves as needed for teas, stocks, soups and infusions.

For maximum production: Leave the central growing point intact and harvest older outer growth first. Regular cutting encourages fresh new growth once the plant is mature.
Success Checklist
Action Why It Matters
Plant in full sun Supports strong growth, flavour and essential oil development.
Use rich, well-drained soil Lemongrass performs best with compost-enriched soil.
Keep moist during early growth Helps the seedling establish quickly after transplanting.
Space plants 30–40 cm apart Allows clumps to expand while keeping rows productive.
Harvest by cutting mature stems Encourages ongoing production once the plant is established.
🪴 Pots, Garden Beds & Growing Style
Lemongrass grows well in both pots and garden beds. In warm climates it can form large, long-lived clumps in the ground. In cooler climates, large pots are useful because plants can be moved to warmer, protected positions during cold weather.

Best soil: Rich, well-drained soil improved with organic compost.

Best pot style: Use a large container with strong drainage and enough room for the clump to expand.
🍴 Cooking, Tea & Kitchen Uses
Lemongrass is used in curries, soups, stir-fries, marinades, sauces, broths, teas, infused drinks and desserts. The lower stems provide the strongest flavour, while the leaves are excellent for teas and aromatic infusions.

Kitchen tip: Bruise or crush stems before cooking to release more citrus aroma and flavour. Remove tough pieces before serving unless finely sliced.
🐛 Pest & Care Notes
Lemongrass is generally hardy and highly tolerant of many common garden pests once established.

Watch for: Drying out during establishment, cold damage, poor drainage and overcrowding in small pots.

Best defence: Full sun, warm soil, regular moisture during early growth, rich compost-improved soil and good drainage.
