- Keep the plants well-watered throughout the summer months. One inch of water per week is ideal, but use more if you are in a hot, arid region.
- For optimal results, quality & yield use in conjunction with QPS made Profeeder.
- High heat can slow the growth of okra.
- Prune the tops of okra plants when they reach 5 to 6 feet tall. This will result in more side branches. Cut back as needed.
- Avoid spring frost or use a grow tunnel
Our premium Indian Okra "Dhruhi" is a variety that is longer, darker green and tasteier than the standard varieties.
Grown as a summer (or dry season) annual with a brief growing season, reaching a height of two metres. The plant features long, lobed leaves and white to yellow blooms. The fruit is a seed-filled capsule that can grow to be up to 18 cm long.
Okra has huge, hairy leaves and tiny spines on its pods, which both have the potential to irritate skin. When handling, think about using gloves and/or long sleeves. No matter what kind, eating okra does not cause inflammation.
Pests of okra include caterpillars (especially Spodoptora litura), aphids, white fly and termites.
