Endive is grown like lettuce and used in salad mixtures to accompany milder-flavoured lettuce to provide a "little bite" to the flavour. A crinkly leaf that’s slightly bitter, it can be blanched by tying the leaves together to protect the central rosette while growing which helps remove some of the bitterness. Avoid growing close to anything in the Allium family such as garlic or onions.
This endive has an upright habit, is strong against tip burn and is suitable for machine harvest.
The characteristically bittersweet leaves provide a high useable volume typically used for salad mixes adding colour and dimension. Slow bolting and strong against tip burn for year-round production in most areas. It’s best suited to autumn, winter and spring production.
