Butter Beans (Phaseolus lunatus), also known as Lima Beans, are a popular legume variety with a creamy, buttery texture that makes them a favorite in soups, stews, and side dishes. Known for their large, smooth, ivory-white seeds, these beans are easy to grow and highly productive. Our well-established Butter Bean seedlings offer a quick start to your garden, resulting in an early harvest and healthy plants.

Butter Beans thrive in warm weather and are self-pollinating, making them a low-maintenance crop perfect for small or large gardens. Their vigorous climbing vines help save space while producing a steady supply of beans throughout the growing season.

🌱 Growing Highlights

  • Seedling Height: 15–20 cm (including root system)

  • Spacing:

    Rows: 60–90 cm apart

    • Plants: 20–30 cm apart for strong vine growth

  • Harvest Time: 12–14 weeks after transplanting

  • Conditions: Full sun | Warm, stable temperatures | Well-drained, fertile soil

🍃 Growing Characteristics

Once transplanted, Butter Beans grow rapidly and produce long, flat pods filled with large, plump beans. The beans can be harvested:

  • Fresh: When pods are fully developed but still tender

  • Dried: Allow pods to dry on the vine for long-term storage

These self-pollinating plants do not require external pollinators but benefit from good air circulation and proper spacing to encourage robust flowering and pod production.

Planting & Care Guide

  • 🌞 Sunlight: Choose a sunny spot with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight.

  • 🌱 Soil: Prefers light, well-drained soil rich in organic matter for optimal growth.

  • 🌿 Mulching: Apply mulch around the base to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate temperature.

  • 💧 Watering: Water deeply at the base to keep the soil consistently moist. Avoid watering the leaves to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.

  • 🪴 Support: Use a trellis or climbing frame to support the vines and maximize space.

📦 Perfect For:

  • Home gardeners with limited space or vertical growing areas

  • Farmers' markets or fresh produce stalls

  • Preserving by freezing or canning

  • Family gardens, as the vines produce early and consistently
